Generate Print Form

Generate Print Form: your software for intelligent set-up of print forms

The software “Generate Print Form” enables print service providers to generate printing forms based on individual requirements of printing, embellishment, and finishing machines as well as different properties of the artworks to be printed. The software significantly shortens make-ready times and ensures efficient use of substrates. The software can be used either fully automated or with visual control.

Icons-The benefits of using Generate Print Form

Setting up a print form manually takes a lot of time, and often the print substrate is not fully utilized either. The print files arrive at prepress, there it is checked and, if necessary, corrected or sent back to the customer for adjustment. Placement on the print form is then done manually, a tedious and time-consuming task for which print service providers are not paid, but which is deducted from their margins.
Generate Print Form software is your solution: the tool assists step by step with these tasks or even takes them over completely!

The key benefits of Generate Print Form:

  • Jobs are automatically sorted and grouped for production per machine, substrate, etc
  • Machine specifics (e.g. max substrate thickness, required marks, inline-offline, ...) are considered when processing jobs
  • Jobs are automatically optimized for machines selected for the production
  • Automatic preflight and file corrections (e.g. adding bleed, trim to cutline, ...)
  • Shorter preparation times
  • Efficient use of substrate
  • Use job parameter for production even without proper MIS
  • As a mini-MIS it can be used to manually create jobs, including job and customer information,
job tracking, and upload function for print files
  • Generate Print Form as a basic job archive
  • Clear software interface for controlling the entire production process

Application: how to set-up intelligent print forms?

Full automation and manual intervention option, incl. prepress package

All production machines and materials, including their specifications, are created as master data in the software itself. Once these settings have been made, the software intelligently and accurately creates print forms tailored to the quantity and type of print files and the requirements of the production machines.

  • Based on the specifics of the artwork, their shape (free-shape, rectangular, round) and depending if you want to create sheets,
  • the software allows to create print forms per artwork, per customer or cross customer
  • reliant on these criteria, Generate Print Form will intelligently apply the best method out of nesting, ganging, step-and-repeat or honeycomb nesting and will suggest to you the best possible print form for the selected substrate and the selected print and cut machines .

In addition, classic prepress tasks such as

  • preflighting
  • color management
  • flattening transparencies
  • file normalization
  • trim to cut line
  • adding bleed
  • round corners
  • check if order data and actual PDF artwork size is in sync (if not: auto-correct)

etc. are done automatically.

If preferred, the user can intervene and adjust the placement by hand. The software allows full automation in the setup of the print form and prepress control and correction, as well as – if requested – manual intervention.

Output for printing, embellishment, and finishing

As soon as a print form is ready, Generate Print Form adds print marks that are needed by finishing machines for cutting or embellishment. Once the user is satisfied with the layout of the print form, production can be started with a simple click and the data is transferred – production-ready – to the press. Finishing and cutting information is automatically sent to the post press machines.

Overview: the different nesting/ganging possibilities

Nesting: definition in the context of the printing industry

Nesting is a placement strategy that makes it possible to place artwork on the print sheet or substrate in such a way to utilize space optimally.

Depending on the artwork, priority, substrate, substrate properties, customer orders, two-sided printing there are different nesting possibilities:

Freeform nesting/ganging

Freefom nesting with generate print form

Freeform nesting/ganging allows nesting across multiple customers:

  • Arrange print jobs form multiple customers in different shapes on a single sheet or roll
  • Optimizes the use of substrate
  • Minimizes waste
  • Reduces make ready sheets
  • Saves costs.

Honeycomb nesting/ganging

Honeycomb nesting

This nesting technology is specially designed for round artworks as the arrangement in the honeycomb structure can be made extremely space-saving.

  • Round artworks
  • Extremely space saving – optimizes the use of substrate
  • Saves costs

Guillotine nesting or step and repeat

Generate Print Form_nesting_step and repeat

This kind of nesting involves straight, continuous cuts as made by guillotine cutting machines. It's mainly used for the production of posters and banners.

  • Detection of cut lines (if not set up properly: automatically corrected!)
  • Costs saving

Highlights – Summary:

Significant time savings in form and sheet creation

  • An ideal, intelligent calculation of forms for print jobs,

  • taking into account various parameters such as number of pieces, delivery date, and material consumption.

  • Intelligent combination of different print jobs achieves significant time and substrate savings and

  • thus a much more economical operation for print service providers!
