What systems can OneVision automation solutions be integrated with and how can it be accomplished?

Definition: Integration

For print production both the production file and the order data (color, number of copies, format, possibly finishing, ...) are required. All order data is stored in one system. "System" is an elastic term and ranges from simple MS Excel forms to complex MIS solutions or web shops to SAP-controlled organizations. In the context of automation of the production workflow, integration means that Workspace automatically receives the order data and print files from this system and can therefore automatically check and prepare the production file on the basis of these.

What systems can Workspace be integrated with?

Without exception, Workspace can be integrated into all systems that can output structured data. Workspace itself is based on xml, which is why we like xml input best. Formats such as csv or jdf can be used just as easily.

The system manufacturer is not relevant for us as long as the data being transferred is in a structured form.

1. Prefabricated interfaces

We have ready-made interfaces for a number of systems that are widely used by our customers. This allows them to be connected immediately to Workspace without any extra adaptations. Most interfaces have so far been created in the areas of label printing, large format, book printing, magazines and newspapers.

2. Create an individual xml-interface

A prefabricated interface is possible with any manufacturer. We, OneVision, prefer to contact other manufacturers to create an interface for our common customers. The biggest challenge is the reaction speed of this manufacturer. Common interfaces require actions from both sides which can take time.

3. Transform data with XSLT

The most pragmatic approach is to receive output from the MIS/Webshop and transform it with the help of XSLT so that it can be used for workspace and thus for the automated production workflow.

This does not require the cooperation of another manufacturer and can be done by our customers in cooperation with us. The effort required depends on the scope and complexity of the information created by the MIS system.

The order system contains all information relevant for production. The following tasks must be performed using a translation matrix (xslt):

- Filter superfluous information (e.g. salesperson)

- Translate relevant information into Workspace-compatible terminology, e.g:

  • item: Brochure -> assemblyline: Brochure;
  • quantity -> multiply

- Define and possibly convert units, for example

  • format: letter -> format: 8.5x11
Example image integration

This translation matrix must be created once. From this point on, the system will transmit all information to Workspace. The XSLT file is stored in Workspace and connects the two systems.
